Hi Everyone:

I just wanted to give a quick update as we had into our 1st weekend of tryouts. There will be questions going around this weekend on what teams Cumberland is going to have and at what level etc. My suggestion is that the parents/players focus on this weekend and have fun as we begin another year of hockey in Cumberland.

I can tell you at the novice level we will have enough for 4 local teams. We will continue to have a "Kent" team and this year the players will play both. The coaches/team mangers will try their best to ensure there are no conflicts.

We will be going Atom A at the provincial level to start the season with another team playing C hockey (formerly house league) in the always competitive NB Central league. Our VP of C Division Seth Herrett can field and questions with regards to this. I do know he will be attending the league meeting in the near future.

Our numbers in Peewee will allow us to have 3 teams. At this time o ur intentions are to have a Peewee AA team and the possibility of either an A team and a C division team or 2 C division teams in addition to this. Please remember any decisions are based on the players available after the initial team is picked, goalies playing an important part in the equation. We will be gathering input from the coaches etc to ensure we make the best decision for all players involved. We want to ensure everyone has fun and that we are competitive if we choose to go provincial. Keep in mind N.B. draws from a significantly larger player pool and have traditionally been very strong at the C level.

Bantam will be the same as the Peewee division with 3 teams and the same possible scenarios. At this time we have a limited number of goalies but are doing our best to see if we can attract a couple more to help us out. We also have to take into consideration that some players are exposed to body checking for the 1st time and this will also be given consideration when selecting teams.

We strongly encourage any Midget aged players to come out as our numbers are low due to high school etc. We hope that our numbers allow us to have a provincial and C division team but it would be prematur e to determine this now. We also hope to have a Midget female team but are waiting to hear back from Parrsboro. We once again recommend that all females interested in playing female hockey come out this weekend.

Please note our provincial teams play in N.S. leagues. Our C division teams play in the NB Central league

Hopefully this helps and CCMHA wishes all players an enjoyable season.
